Let’s Make Some Butter

Program Highlights Thursday November 16, 2023

Tonight our lesson was about making butter! We learned that when the first settlers came to America there were no stores where you could buy butter. The settlers had to make butter themselves. We then worked together to create butter the way the early settlers did. We mixed heavy cream and salt and then shook it for as long as each person could and then we passed it to the next person, and we continued this way until we successfully made butter. Later in the session, any hero who wanted to try the butter got to do so later in the session on a cracker. We did a wonderful job being resilient and working hard to accomplish the task. We all learned a lesson on just how difficult it was for our ancestors.

Afterwards, we played several rounds of Thanksgiving themed Family Feud; this was our first time playing this game and it was a success! So many great guesses from both teams of heroes! We matched up two heroes from opposing teams to face off against each other to attempt to get the top answer and get their team to be able to play the round.  Sometimes the team was able to complete the entire game and sometimes the other team came in and took the steal. It was amazing to see how with a little support the teams were able to discuss which answer to go with when given the opportunity to steal.  TEAMWORK!!!

We then moved onto our craft, allowing the Family Feud team winners to get the first pick of three crafts. Crafts are great to work on fine motor, following instructions, frustration tolerance and teamwork. We love how some heroes are always willing to help out a friend who is struggling.

We finished up with a few rounds of Hangman. The heroes are becoming more independent in their ability to run this game, only needing some help with letter placement and occasional word ideas.
