Thanksgiving Theme Fun

Program Highlights Thursday November 9, 2023

Tonight we started by discussing what we did over the weekend and as always, we ensured that each hero paid attention while their peers were speaking and waiting their turns to speak.

We then made a list of all the heroes birthday's so we can be sure to celebrate each hero on their special day! 

To get into the holiday spirit we did some themed activities, we did a gross motor activity called the Turkey Twerk! Two heroes went head to head in a turkey "twerk off" which consisted of having a box attached to their back with 5 ping pong balls in each and in order to win they had to twerk to the music in order to get all the balls out of the box before their fellow hero did. 

We then did a Thanksgiving variation on the classic game of pin the tail on the donkey except this time we did pin the tail feather on the turkey. Every hero did a great job taking turns, not cheating and laughing together about the crazy placement of some of the feathers.

Finally we made an Indian Corn beaded craft. This was a lesson in waiting for instructions before touching the materials, following step by step instructions (with support if needed) as well as fine motor dexterity, some simple counting and task completion.  The heroes had flexibility in making their corn as there was no set pattern needed to make a beautiful piece of art. 

We look forward to seeing everyone next week for some more fall and Thanksgiving themed fun! Every week is better than the last and we love seeing all the blooming friendships!
