Let’s Make a Sugar Scrub
Program Highlights
Thursday September 21, 2023
In our last session, we learned all about making homemade sugar scrubs. This was a hands on class and everyone got to participate and take home their own scrub. The benefit of making your own scrub is that you know the ingredients you are using and it’s safe for you to use. We learned what sugar scrubs are used for and how to make them on our own.
Our heroes learned that both men and women need a good skin care routine. Sugar scrubs are great to use on dry skin, wrinkled skin, sun damaged skin, sensitive skin or even acne. It helps to remove the top layer of dead skin cells to promote cell turnover. Sugar scrubs also help to retain moisture to keep your skin hydrated. The sugar scrubs that we made are gentle enough to use on a daily basis and consist of sugar, fractionated coconut oil, and therapy grade essential oils.
Each hero was excited to be able to mix the ingredients and choose their own essential oil blend. The essential oil blends were Spiced Cider, Sweater Weather, Give Thanks, Pumpkin Pie, and Pumpkin Spice Latte with variations of mixtures of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, orange and lemon.
This was a perfect activity to help us learn about personal hygiene, how to get our skin ready for the cold weather soon to come, and enjoy the beginning of fall with the scents of the season.
